Aims and objectives

The key aims of the Quality in Care Programme are:

  • QiC Diabetes 2013 categories support one or more of the domains as defined by the NHS Outcomes Framework 2013/14, which was launched to help the health and care system focus on measuring outcomes
  • Bring clarity as to how good practice is being implemented within key therapy areas
  • Recognise the contribution of the NHS, the life science industry and voluntary sectors in the provision of high quality care
  • Commend care initiatives that implement high impact change programmes in those therapy areas involving the most prevalent and long-term conditions – those that represent the highest human cost and burden of healthcare resources
  • Create a forum to facilitate further learning, sharing and dissemination of good practice within priority care pathways
  • Create a forum and process that will promote collaboration between the NHS, Industry and voluntary sectors in working together towards the achievement of shared goals
  • Ensure that people living with specific conditions have improved awareness of and access to the best possible standards of care
  • Facilitate the empowerment of those people living with a specific condition to be more active in managing that condition, and so achieve better health outcomes and live fuller, healthier and more productive lives.
