QiC Diabetes 2012
The second Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes programme will be launched at this year’s Diabetes UK conference in Glasgow, from March 7-9, recognising good healthcare practice in diabetes in the UK.
Supported by Diabetes UK, NHS Diabetes and Sanofi, QiC Diabetes 2012 comprises both an awards event and subsequent opportunities for finalists to explain why their efforts were successful to a wider healthcare audience, including presenting at the Diabetes UK’s Annual Professional Conference.
Diabetes affects 2.9 million people in the UK
Diabetes was chosen as the first therapy area to be covered by QiC in 2011 due to the increasing need to find the best way to tackle the social and economic burden of the condition which now affects 2.9 million people in the UK.
Simon O’Neill, Director of Care, Information and Advocacy, Diabetes UK, said: “Diabetes UK is delighted to continue its support of QiC Diabetes. The standard of entries in the first year was outstanding and has enabled us to share and learn from best practice in the field of diabetes care. We look forward to seeing even more examples of excellence through the second QiC Diabetes programme.”
Dr Nigel Stones, part of the winning team for clinical service redesign for the Bringing Specialist Care into Primary Care project, said: “We were amazed to win the gold award in our category at QiC Diabetes – makes all the hard work worthwhile. We feel very motivated to extend our project and incorporate new ideas.”
Raising the profile of diabetes care by sharing good practice
Anna Morton, Director, NHS Diabetes said, “NHS Diabetes is proud to once again be supporting the QiC Diabetes Awards Programme in 2012. Diabetes continues to be one of the greatest public health challenges this country faces. Despite all the good work being done, we are still seeing unacceptable variation in the care people with diabetes receive and we still have a lot to do. I hope that you will join us in supporting the QiC awards for another year by entering and sharing your examples of good practice and helping us to raise the profile of diabetes care in the NHS.”
Entries are invited from the NHS, industry and patient organisations, with joint working and collaboration key to the QiC Programmes. Entry will be open from March 7, 2012.
The entry deadline is Friday May 25, 2012, with the Awards taking place at Sanofi’s Guildford headquarters on Thursday October 18, 2012.
Recognise, share and celebrate diabetes care excellence
“The NHS and its partners should be proud that each day sees delivery of the very best in diabetes care. QiC provides the opportunity to recognise, share and celebrate this excellence, and I'm proud that Sanofi Diabetes is once again supporting the awards. Following the success of last year's inaugural awards, I look forward to this year's event with keen anticipation,” said Dr Andrew Hockey, Diabetes Medical Director at Sanofi.
