Quality in Care (QiC) is an awards programme for the UK and Ireland that recognises good practice in patient care and joint working in key therapy areas and allows these schemes to be shared and disseminated on a national level.

Its aims are to:

  • Support healthcare providers in a practical way to improve standards of care
  • Identify and showcase existing initiatives which are directly or indirectly improving care
  • Disseminate these more widely to enable individuals and teams working in healthcare across the country to learn from good practice.

Each programme involves the support of healthcare professionals, charities, industry and NHS.

All categories in the awards programmes support one or more of the domains as defined by the current NHS Outcomes Framework.

A QiC award means that an initiative has been highlighted by the NHS, charities, patient organisations and industry as improving patient experience, standards of care and outcomes.

In addition to QiC Dermatology in association with Dermatology in practice and QiC Diabetes, now in its eleventh year, awards programmes have included QiC Oncology , QiC Hepatitis C and QiC Anticoagulation.

How does it work?

Each QiC programme follows the same simple path.

Entry

Organisations behind patient care schemes across the four nations of the UK enter their work in categories that cover a broad criteria of care services,making the awards as open and accessible as possible.

Judging process

Entries are reviewed by a panel of experts from the particular therapy area. A shortlist of nominees for each category is collated before the awards ceremony,with the winners announced on the night.

Awards

The awards celebrate all the nominated patient care case studies in each category.

Dissemination

Following the awards, QiC provides a platform to share the award winning case studies across the NHS and other organisations involved in patient care. Case studies demonstrate innovative practice,sustainability and ability to replicate in other care settings across the UK.
