Dr Rustam Rea is a consultant in Diabetes and Acute General Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His specialist interest is in inpatient diabetes care and integrated diabetes care. He is part of the leadership team implementing a large quality improvement programme for inpatient diabetes care at OUH. This consists of an expanded inpatient diabetes team, creating new education modules for all staff and implementing new IT solutions across the Trust. He has spent the last 8 years developing new models of integrated Diabetes care bringing together primary and secondary care. He was Co-Chair of First Diabetes, Derby working in a clinically unified partnership organisation between primary and secondary care. First Diabetes was recognised for its innovative cross-organisational approach to diabetes care in several national awards. He is also Editor in Chief of Practical Diabetes (www.practicaldiabetes.com), with a readership of 16,000 diabetes healthcare professionals in the UK and according to the 2015 hospital readership survey the most widely read Diabetes journal in secondary care.
