Dr Garry Tan has been a consultant in diabetes since 2007 and clinical lead in the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism since 2012. Garry has been described as “a huge change agent” and he is uncertain if this is a compliment or not. He has been involved in the development of services in Derby then in Oxford, and his work is underpinned by a drive to improve patient care and a conviction that “things can be done better”. His clinical interests have included various aspects of the management of type 2 diabetes (including his most recent published research on the use of new cannabinoids as a new treatment for diabetes), organisation and delivery of diabetes care, and lipids. He sits on various national committees but is most proud of the difference he’s made to the care of individual patients.
