Mr. Sarkar is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon with a sub-specialty interest in diabetic foot, complex wounds and limb salvage surgery. He qualified in Cambridge and London before undertaking General Surgical Training in Northeast Thames. He is a member of the complex diabetic foot MDT at the Royal London Hospital,incorporating the UK's largest renal dialysis service. He invented the SUSPECT diabetic foot management and training tool.
He is a Principle Investigator for the BASIL-2 below-the-knee revascularisation trial and Chief Investigator for the RAPID trial of Platelet-Rich Plasma for non-healing diabetic foot wounds. He is also the Vascular Subspecialty lead for the North Thames sector at the National Institute for Health Research. His other roles include Lead for Vascular Research and Education at the Barts Heart Cardiovascular Centre; Deputy Director of the Waltham Forest and East London Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme and Director of the Royal College of Surgeons Basic Surgical Skills Course.
